I made peanut soup today! I spent most of last night’s babysitting money on the ingredients so I’m glad it turned out good. My dad took the picture. Here’s the recipe, which is printed on the other side of the cup in the picture:
Mount Vernon Colonial Peanut and Chestnut Soup
1 Medium Onion, chopped
¼ cup Margarine (I use butter)
1 tbsp. all-purpose Flour
2 qts. Chicken Broth
1 cup Smooth Peanut Butter
½ cup Unsalted Peanuts, chopped (I put them in whole, it’s what they do at the restaurant)
1 tbsp. Worchestershire Sauce
½ cup Water Chestnuts (I got them sliced in a can and then sliced each round slice in half)
Sauté onion in margarine. Stir in flour to make roux. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and strain. Add peanut butter and worchestershire sauce and stir. Hold on stove at low heat. Garnish with chopped peanuts and water chestnuts. (And even though it doesn’t say so you should probably bring it back to a boil for a little while longer.)

Before making soup…

…one must actually be able to open a can of chicken broth.

After puzzling with the can opener for several minutes I finally found success with pounding the tip of a knife into the lid.

Employment Opportunities?????

Might be getting a job at Safeway…….or maybe the REC Center…….or maybe Rec-PAC….but especially Safeway because apparently I have an in there (which I guess is great!) even though there seem to be no openings on the website???

But I called the lady to ask some questions and she wasn’t there and I left a message and I thought I did a good job with that at least but man, employment is stressful and it’s all about who you know.

I wish you could just be walking down the street and see a job in the gutter and be like “whoa look I just found a job” or maybe if “job hunting” was where you went out into the wilderness to catch wild jobs that would be pretty cool because then you wouldn’t have to worry about accidentally offending people or doing the wrong thing socially.

Anyway here’s hoping I can make some sort of income this summer because I am really not looking forward to paying for Otakon admission with what little funds I currently have. At least I’ve got a babysitting job tomorrow night so that’s good!

Sometimes I do things that puzzle even me.
Like this strange MS Paint imitation clipart with oven mitt hands.
Enjoy, and remember I’m in art school.

I know you all are probably getting tired of seeing this picture, but on Facebook my uncle wanted to know how I made it so I did a process post and I’m going to put it here in case anyone’s interested.
1. Scanned sketch on paper.2. I outlined the sketch, relying heavily on it but still making some changes, as you can see with things like the jaw and shoulder.3. The outline stands alone! It’s like a coloring book.4. I started with the skin, carving out general shapes first by using three different colors to show light and shadow. I gradually refined the shapes, and cleaned up the edges. (I colored outside the lines a lot!)5. On a new layer in Photoshop, I did the same thing with the hair. You can think of layers as different levels of transparent paper. The sketch, the outline, the white background, and the skin coloring are all on different layers at this point.6. And another layer for the shirt.7. And another for the blue background.8. And another for the teeth and inside of the mouth. And that’s it! Finally I saved it as a .png file, which collapsed all the layers down into one for uploading to the internet. :)
